The biggest evangelistic movement in Vietnam's history is spreading through children's parties.

An Intimidating Guest
There was about to be a party, and the children couldn't wait. There would be games, songs, skits, a story, and a very special present for each child. For two siblings, there was just one obstacle keeping them from attending the party - their father. And he was no pushover. In fact, he was a colonel in Vietnam's communist army. They begged and pleaded, and finally wore the Colonel down.

"You can go on one condition," he said. "I'm going with you."

The Colonel arrived at the party with his children, and his presence made the hosts quite nervous. Why? If the hosts went on with the party as planned, they were at the mercy of the Colonel, who had authority over them and could have them arrested. This was one of thousands of evangelistic parties funded by WorldServe to reach the children of Vietnam. At this party, the hosts were going to share the greatest gift of all - salvation through Jesus Christ. Partygoers would hear of a Savior who loves them and died for them, and they would be invited to accept Jesus into their hearts.

After huddling together in prayer, the Christian hosts agreed that they should put their faith in God's power. The party must go on. The result: God worked a miracle. Not only did the Colonel's children accept Christ that day, but so did their dad. He even invited one of the pastors into his home to disciple him.

As he became grounded in God's Word, the Colonel began to share his new faith with his junior officers. Before long, 20 officers and soldiers had accepted Christ. They were not only part of Vietnam's army, they were part of God's army. The officers and soldiers gathered in homes regularly for Bible studies. As they arrived, they stacked their side arms, AK 47s, and other weapons in a pile before sitting on the floor to study God's Word.

A History of Success
Since the first evangelistic party was held in 1995, there have been thousands of these parties. Thousands of Vietnamese children have come to faith in Christ, with hundreds of new churches planted. In the past year alone, nearly 263,000 children accepted Christ through these events, which is about 70 to 80 percent of the non-Christian partygoers saying yes to Christ. As the children continue to be discipled after the parties, they learn to pray for their families and the authorities, and eagerly share Jesus with everyone. The result is the transformation of families and entire communities.

With such phenomenal success, the children's evangelistic parties have become a powerful tool to share the Gospel and a strategic part of WorldServe's strategy to reach Vietnam for Christ. In fact, leaders of the unregistered church say it is the most successful way they have seen in the history of the country to lead people to Christ, see them discipled, and see a church established that plants more churches.

The Party Approach
Since the very first children's evangelistic party was held in Vietnam, the strategy has been for Christian children to invite non-believing children to a specified home. Adult and teenaged believers are on hand to host the parties. As the guests arrive, they are welcomed. Often, their parents come, too, and stay for the duration.

The typical party has games, songs, skits, and other fun things for entertainment. Each child also receives a very special gift package that includes cookies and candies as well as a Vietnamese translation of The Most Important Story Ever Told. Before the party concludes, the hosts sit down with each child one on one to go through the book, which so effectively communicates the Gospel. Then, they invite the children to put their faith in Christ and they do so by the thousands.

Party Sponsorship
Being part of these evangelistic children's parties is such a rewarding experience, and we invite you to "host" a party from thousands of miles away. For just $5, you can sponsor a child to attend one of the parties. A $25 gift will cover the party expenses for five children, and $50 will provide for 10 children. Hosting an entire party of 30 children, which is the typical size for these events, can be accomplished with a $150 gift.

Because the effectiveness of these parties is compounded as children share what's taken place in their lives, the impact of your gift goes beyond each child you sponsor. You become part of the biggest evangelistic movement in Vietnam's history.
