"I rise before dawn and cry for help; I have put my hope in your word." - Psalms 119:147  The Church in Vietnam continues to need a much greater supply of Bibles and New Testaments. With 276,000 new decisions for Christ last year in one people group alone, the need for Bibles continues to greatly outpace the supply. Because of the scarcity of scriptures, many believers meticulously hand copy the Word of God and memorize entire books to keep God's Word in their hearts.With Bibles so readily available in North America, it can be hard for us to comprehend why so many people are without God's Word when they desperately wish to own a copy. Here are some obstacles facing believers in Vietnam. Challenge 1: Limited Printing The communist Vietnamese government regulates the official Bible supply. Religious affairs restricts the printing of Bibles to small quantities and infrequent intervals. Challenge 2: Controlled Media Unlike North America, Vietnamese booksellers do not have free choice of the religious material they sell. They must order only literature and quantities that are approved. While a large urban bookstore might have a Bible on the shelf, they most often have no supply. Challenge 3: Geographic Issues There are simply no well-stocked bookstores in the smaller hamlets and villages. Even if a villager had funds and freedom of purchase, there is no easy way to get scriptures without the help of mission-minded believers. Even a costly trip to the city offers them no guarantee of securing a Bible. Additionally, finding a Bible in one's local language presents an even greater challenge. Challenge 4: Restricted Delivery The few Bibles available are usually delivered to registered churches, leaving almost no Bibles for believers in unregistered churches. |

There are multitudes of believers meeting in churches that have not been granted official "registered" status, including house churches and larger bodies of believers who are still waiting for the government's permission to meet. Participating in the Solution WorldServe is providing Bibles to the unregistered churches so that God's Word may be shared with all who seek to know it. Because the need is so great, every copy of the Word of God means a profound impact on the lives of our brothers and sisters. Each Bible helps to ground and equip them in Biblical truth as they work to reach more people for Christ.
