"Remember those in prison as if you were their fellow prisoners, and those who are mistreated as if you yourselves were suffering." - Heb. 13:3

Can it Be True?
Yes, people really are going to jail for their faith.

As fellow believers, we pray diligently for their release. Yet, as only God can do, He is able to continue to work His good will among the body of believers and provide comfort to those who are suffering for His glory. He continues to draw people to Christ in the midst of their great suffering. In the midst of persecution, fellow believers are inspired to deepen their faith and follow the way of the cross, even when it leads to prison.

Who Faces These Threats?
In China, going to jail for one's faith is a grim reality, and prison is a natural consequence for those who have the courage to distribute scriptures or meet in churches that have not been officially sanctioned. These believers share Christ with others knowing they may have to pay a very high price. To learn more about the realities of prison for these believers, click here.

In Vietnam, pastors and believers face great pressures, beatings, fines, and confiscation of property. Despite improvements, local authorities often choose to harass, intimidate, and even jail those they deem uncooperative.

In Cuba, this communist nation has allowed the church to function, although often with great restriction and pressures. It is a time of uncertainty and change, but the church remains strong and continues to grow. The economic conditions have lead to great hardship and poverty for most poeple, including pastors and Christian workers.

In Ethiopia, this formerly communist nation is seeing the greatest turning to God in its history, even as ethnic and religious tensions present a daily environment of danger and consequences for those who preach the Gospel. Beatings, stonings and machete attacks are common for followers of Christ.
