Support for Suffering Pastors
Give $50 for one month of support
Hundreds upon hundreds of pastors are in prison throughout China. In one 3-week period during 2006, 220 pastors were arrested. Many others are missing and are presumed to be in prison or, in some cases, killed for their faith.
Once arrested, the pastors are interrogated, beaten and forced to do hard labor. The impact of the arrests on the families of these pastors is devastating. Invariably, they lose everything and often have to go into hiding. As so many make their living off the land, they lose their livelihood and cannot pay for the basic necessities of life, such as food, housing and clothing. Upon arrest, the pastor's identity card is confiscated, so even after they are released they are no longer able to work legally.
The pastors, although starved and tortured in prison, state that the hardest reality they face is not being able to provide for their own families. The underground church tries to help, but in reality can do very little because most are also struggling to survive. But we can and must help. As the Body of Christ, it is our responsibility and great privilege in the West to care for these brave suffering servants of God and their families.
Individual or Group support of one pastor's family: $50 per month for a twelve month period.
Spiritual Impact: The supported family sees the goodness of God in the midst of great adversity. This financial support not only enables them to survive, but many are involved in ministry with their spouse, and the support enables them to carry on in their ministry, even while their spouse is in prison. The pastors preach boldly, knowing their families' practical needs will be cared for even if they must face the worst-case scenario.
