Two thousand years ago an Ethiopian eunuch, an important official, went to Jerusalem to worship. The apostle Phillip met him on the road in Jerusalem reading scriptures. The eunuch asked Phillip to explain the meaning of the scriptures. Phillip told him the good news about Jesus. The eunuch accepted Jesus Christ, was baptized, and went on his way rejoicing (Matthew 8: 26-39). The same hunger for spiritual truth remains strong today among Ethiopians, who may also be facing their greatest physical need for food.A Spiritual Awakening Thrives Amidst a Great Food Shortage Ethiopians today face a different kind of famine- a great hunger for God's Word. WorldServe is working in Ethiopia to nourish the people with both material resources and God's Word. The Challenge One of the greatest challenges facing the Ethiopian church is to train and equip the local leadership. Because of the recent massive growth of the church, the need for training is greatly amplified. Furthermore, the previous Ethiopian communist rule prohibited training for Christian church leadership. By providing ministry training, we are meeting a critical need for helping congregations of people grow in Christ. Supplying Short-term Support for Training People are ready to go; they are asking us to supply short-term support for the church planter and his family, knowing that God will go before them and bring forth fruit. In one of the major Ethiopian church denomination, 1,500 church planters are prepared to go. They are just awaiting funds. Prior to their deployment, these committed workers are given essential biblical discipleship and valuable instruction in church planting. They are also enrolled in ongoing training from qualified Bible teachers and church leadership. |

The Challenge Set Before Us Never before in the history of Ethiopia have there been so many people accepting Christ. As one Church leader stated, "This is Ethiopia's hour of decision." We invite you to prayerfully consider your involvement in supporting the believers in Ethiopia as they seek to win their country for Christ. Donate $35 USD/$40 CDN for one month of training and transportation. |
