"Then [the authorities] called them in again and commanded them not to speak or teach at all in the name of Jesus. But Peter and John replied, "Judge for yourselves whether it is right in God's sight to obey you rather than God. For we cannot help speaking about what we have seen and heard." – Acts 4:18-20

Modern Heroes of Faith
When Pastor Chen was beaten for sharing the gospel, the guard's face betrayed his thoughts, "Surely he will stop sharing Christ now. Nothing can be worth a beating a like that.” But instead, the beatings served only to ignite more passion, determination, and commitment for our friend, Chen. He believes planting Christian churches in China is a worthy calling from Christ, even when it means more beatings, possible imprisonment, or worse.

Chen is a modern hero of the faith. He is one of the 2,400 church planters supported by WorldServe. With joy and honor he places his life on the line daily for the sake of the gospel.

Counting the Cost
We wish we could adequately convey the fierce determination and commitment of Chen and his fellow laborers. Their drive to spread the good news of Jesus Christ is greater than every affliction they must bear. They are often isolated from family, friends, and loved ones for days, weeks, and even months at a time with no communication or encouragement. God is the only One who brings assurance of His care for them. While they are empowered by His strength, they must daily trust Him for what each day on Earth might bring.

Beatings Bring Boldness
Even when these pastors are imprisoned, they do not cower. In fact, the beatings often serve to strengthen their resolve. As they suffer, they are reminded of the importance of the mission. Just like the apostles, Peter, John, and Paul, these pastors have refined their focus to one singular purpose: to advance the kingdom of God by reaching people with the gospel and planting new churches.

After he was beaten, Chen summarized what many pastors in China feel:

“After that beating, I realized there were still many more places that needed the gospel. The great geographical expanse of Chinese soil is not yet saturated with the good news of Jesus Christ. Many more places and many more people are in need of the gospel, and they have yet to have the chance to hear the good news.”

Faithfully Serving the Faithful
Each church planter must know they can rely on our support every single month.

We want them to serve with confidence, knowing their family will be cared for, and they can give themselves fully to their passion of establishing new churches in spiritually barren areas. We at WorldServe are fervently committed to serve Christ faithfully by serving His people. We have committed over 50% of our budget for the coming year to support church planters like Chen.

While this is a massive commitment, it is amazingly effective considering it takes so little to sponsor each church planter! Please prayerfully consider how many church planters you can sponsor. Like the believers in the Book of Acts and our modern heroes of the faith, we can join in the efforts to do all we can for the sake of the gospel of Christ. As we give, we provide support, encouragement, and strength for the Body of Christ to reach nations with His truth. Please remember to pray for Chen and the 2,400 church planters who risk everything they have so that all may come to know Jesus Christ as their Savior.
