"Your word, O Lord, is eternal; it stands firm in the heavens" - Psalm 119:89

A Treasure in Hand
After many years of praying to own a Bible, Lin (not his real name) finally met another Christian who agreed to loan him his Bible for three months - three treasured months with a daunting task looming before him. If Lin wanted to own a Bible, he knew what he must do - make his own copy by hand.

As soon as the workday was over, Lin would begin his most important task. He worked with urgency and intensity long into the night, sometimes only reserving two to four hours for sleep. By the time the three months were up, he had successfully copied the entire Bible without allowing himself even a single mistake, as he would re-do every page until it was perfect.

Gathering a Team
Through this labor, Lin realized the importance of sharing Scripture with others. Lin was moved both by the work and by the words contained within the Scripture. As soon as he finished the first copied Bible and returned it to the owner, he began working on another copy.

As his excitement for sharing God's Word grew, Lin recruited other men and women to join him in this meticulous task. Soon, he had assembled a team of 15 people, all older believers who were well-advanced in years. They committed to the highest standards of accuracy, discarding the page and beginning again if they made even one mistake.

Counting the Cost
This work was not without cost. Their homes were sometimes searched, placing the safety of themselves and their laboriously hand-copied Scriptures at risk. One woman on the team suffered permanent damage to her hand from the strain of writing for hours on end. Why were they willing to pay this price? So that others could have the full counsel of God's Word and so they would not be swayed by cults and false teachings. The Bible says, "You shall know the truth, and the truth shall set you free."

Changing the Future
This small band of elderly men and women chose to give a younger generation what they knew to be the truth: God's Word. During the course of three years, the team produced 401 complete Bibles.

They continue to keep careful records of the use and whereabouts of these copies. While 30 of these Bibles have been confiscated during arrests, the remaining 371 are still in use today by pastors teaching from these treasured labors of love.

How Can I Help?
Most of us can't write in Chinese, don't have three months of time to share, and get fatigued at the thought of doing work in painstaking detail as this team does. However, many of us do have the financial resources that can greatly further the efforts of these dedicated believers whose mission is to share God's Word throughout China. Through WorldServe, you can provide a printed Bible for waiting believers at a cost of just $2.50 per copy.

It takes Lin two years to meticulously write eight copies of God's Word by hand. In just a moment's time with your $25 gift to WorldServe, you can provide ten printed Bibles. Lin has done all he can to spread the Word of God in China. Have you?
